Welcome to another #TBT post of our travels! This past March we – the Grove girls! – took a trip to NYC for a very important reason… to surprise my husband on his birthday! He is a native New Yorker. Brooklyn to be exact! So, Clark’s sister and her fiance plus my sister and her husband joined us in NYC to make Clark feel loved on his birthday! He had no idea at all. Sunday night I packed our bags in the trunk after Clark fell asleep and Monday morning I put Clark and some snacks in the car and said “it’s a surprise!”. Well. I lasted a grand total of 6 minutes in the car before I spilled that we were on our way to New York! A much needed trip for both Clark and I at that time. It was so refreshing and felt amazing to be in the city with our sisters and loved ones. I had a few other surprises for him while in New York as well. I think it was one of the best birthday’s of all time. Here are a few [too many] photo’s of our time there.
There really is something magical about birthday’s! I am so grateful that so many loved ones rallied behind me to honor Clark on his birthday… a man who is so worthy of a true celebration and a rejuvenating trip to his hometown. Thank you to ALL our friends and loved ones who contributed/donated or helped me pull off the surprise and keep it secret! Sometimes as a wife you just have to take a BIG step of faith knowing you’re doing the right thing for your husband and work extra hard to get something accomplished despite the challenges. There were many challenges in getting Clark to NYC. I spoke to his boss and got him to clear Clark from work. I took up a friend who works for a hotel chain on their generous offer for free hotels with breakfast included. My sister and brother-in-law treated us to Clark’s birthday dinner that night & subway tickets. Clark’s wonderful youth pastor and his wife treated us to lunch the following day – they are family to us! Then I packed lots of snacks and food for hotel so we could save money there. We ended up only paying for the gas to get there and parking at the hotel. Thank you God for providing and giving us friends and family who bless us. We only hope to be a blessing back. It was stressful trying to plan on a budget and to keep it under wraps but I knew beyond a shadow of doubt I needed to get Clark to NYC for his birthday and for his mental health. He left New York feeling loved and refreshed. It will definitely go down as one of my favorite trips to NYC! Not because of the magnificent sights to see or delicious food, but because it was about family. NYC just has it all!
