This post is dedicated to Kendra and Sterling because they are the most avid popcorn eaters I know! It was not until Trinity (my teenager) got me hooked on popcorn that I really appreciated this gluten free snack. Saturday evening Clark and I typically sit down with Trinity and we have a family movie night where – of course – popcorn is necessary! But not just ordinary popcorn… fancy popcorn! Today I have four recipes for the most simple and delicious GOURMET popcorn.
This is perfect for your next party or gathering where you want to do something low key but still has some pizazz! Gourmet popcorn – or fancy popcorn as it’s known as in my house – is something you can whip up in a short amount of time (and with a small amount of money). It will really seem like you went all out and did something fancy, ahem, GOURMET! Bonus, if you have little kiddos (or teenagers in my case) around the house this is a simple enough recipe you can all do together. Even if you’re relaxing with your family or friends and watching a movie like we do this is a snack that everyone will enjoy! Kendra and her friends get together every Sunday evening and watch the newest episode of The Walking Dead and eat popcorn. These recipes will give you a good excuse to have some friends over.
First things first… let’s pop our little corns! This is serious popcorn business – no microwave pouches allowed. Since we were kids our mother has been popping over the stove so if you don’t have a handy-dandy popcorn popper like I do – use your stove top! This will give you the best taste. Popcorn in it’s purest form without any of the chemicals you would get from a microwave pouch. Plus it smells amazing.
All I have to do is put three tablespoons of oil in the bottom of my machine and pour the kernels in over it like you see below.
Thank you to my Auntie Nancy for getting us this popcorn popper! Isn’t it awesome?
Turn on the machine and wait for the delicious smells!
I’m not sure I can say I was patiently waiting in the above picture, ha! However, once my popcorn was ready… I tried four different gourmet recipes that I will list below. Check it out! First up…
Cinnamon Sugar Gourmet Popcorn! Now this looks good doesn’t it?
Ingredients: Popcorn, salted butter, cinnamon-sugar mix, pinch of salt
After adding some melted butter and giving it a good toss sprinkle your cinnamon sugar mix over the popcorn to your liking. Top it off with just a pinch of salt! Viola! Trinity [aka- gourmet popcorn expert] normally adds a bit of maple syrup and then lets it chill to make kettle corn. Yum! Next up…
Cheesy Gourmet Popcorn! This recipe is one my favorites because I am a lover of all things CHEESE. I live and breathe cheese. I don’t care how gross that sounded. Cheese is life. Jesus. Cheese. Clark is third.
Ingredients: I took out all the cheese I currently had in my fridge and decided on cheddar cheese with a sprinkle of that parmesan & romano mix.
Look at that delicious cheese! I graded fresh sharp cheddar!
I layered the cheese throughout the popcorn, here you see the top layer of cheddar going on. Then I sprinkled the parm/romano cheese on top! If your popcorn is nice and fresh hopefully it’s still warm enough to melt the cheese for you. You can cheat like I did and stick in the microwave if you must!
^Happy cheese eater. Couldn’t you eat this every night? Yum to the yum yum. Our last gourmet recipe is the truly the pièce de résistance!
Chocolate Nut Delight Gourmet Popcorn! Wowsers… look at this bad boy!
Ingredients: semi-sweet chocolate morsels, organic peanut butter, and some walnuts (optional)
Melt that chocolate down in the microwave (stir half way through).
We slipped our melted chocolate into a plastic bag we could use as a piping.
Spread that chocolate on! Next, get your peanut butter melted down and ready to go in the same fashion.
In the opposite direction of the chocolate you can spread the peanut butter across and then toss your walnuts on. I also suggest that you put little Reeces pieces throughout your popcorn so each layer as a sweet taste! Now you can’t forget about this classic last option…
Movie Theater Butter Gourmet Popcorn! Sometimes I don’t need all the fancy toppings and I’m craving the good ol extra EXTRA extra butter and salted popcorn! Anyone relate?
a little more…. little more…
Ingredients: Popcorn, salted butter (one stick), salt
Pour that melted butter and give it a toss. Then keep layering more and MORE butter!
Just a little bit!
Hope you enjoyed this post on popcorn. I encourage you to add your own flavor! Think about your favorite candies or something unexpected. Plus you can do this as a family activity or with friends and have a blast!
What do you like on YOUR popcorn?
