Well it’s officially National Sisters Day… so how could we not post a little sum sum from the ORIGINAL sistah friends! Lately we’ve been seeing a lot of people using our hashtag #sistahfriends — some of which aren’t even real sisters! Smh! We’ll have to forgive you, but there is just nothing like a sister who’s also your best friend. We brainstormed the idea for a blog in the spring of 2014 after having talked about it casually over the years (and with GREAT encouragement from our husbands, LOL). So, Kendra made a deal with me and said “Alright if you ombré your hair I’ll do a blog with you!” And the rest is history.
We took a quick trip over to Thinking Cup (fabulous downtown Boston coffee place) and wrote all our ideas on a piece of notebook paper. We had NO idea how much hard work, time, and mental energy it takes to run a blog. Neither did we know how rewarding it would be to see thousands of readers click over to 47 Grove and read our stories, advice, and family recipes. Especially when we got such incredible feedback from Kendra’s post on marriage or Kim’s post about her health journey. You readers are AMAZING! We are so glad what we have to share has helped you, inspired you, filled your bellies, or just made you laugh! We both asked God to use us in whatever way He wanted and this blog has been an outlet for love and support in many ways.
Still, one of the best and most exciting results from our blog is what we have been able to do TOGETHER. This will always be something we can connect about even when we aren’t living next door to each other. After that blog brainstorming session at Thinking Cup we could have never known God would call Kendra & Sterling to East Hartford, Connecticut a couple months later. I truly believe God laid this “sister blog” project in front us knowing that we would soon be living in separate states. Thanks God — You always know how to care for us and keep the most important people close even when they’re far.
If you have a sister with whom you don’t easily get along with (trust us, we’ve had our ups and downs) we encourage you to invite her to your own local coffee shop. You never know what restorative work God may begin and grow within your sistah friendship! He also may have a plan to use you TOGETHER! Sending all of you other sistah friends out there our greetings — and a few kissy emojis!
