I was on Pinterest (as I too often am) when I came across this DIY garland, and I knew right away that I had to try it! What I love most about the project is how many possibilities there are and how easy it is to create; it’s the perfect craft for a Saturday afternoon. I already had two of the three things I needed to create the garland: yarn and string. All I had left to buy was some wooden beads, but a quick trip to Michaels with a 40% off coupon took care of that.
There are so many ways to create this garland but I will narrow them down to how I created mine. Before you begin choose your yarn whether thick or thin, beads, and get a thin string to create the garland.
First choose a place you’d like to hang the garland; this will help you decide how long you’d like to make it. Once that is decided start working on your tassels.
Create your tassels by looping the yarn around your hand. When they’re as thick you’d like them, cut the yarns and wrap the last piece around the top of the tassel a few times, tying it in place (make sure you leave enough space at the top to pull the string through). Then cut the bottom of the tassels so that the ends are even. You can cut the tassels as short or as long as you’d like, but start off longer than you want so that you have room to adjust when you cut the ends evenly. You can alternate the colors, thickness and even lengths of your tassels to make your garland entirely your own.
Once you finish your tassels you can decide how to spread your beads. Keep in mind as you plan your strand that the wooden beads get heavy quickly. The beads I got had a variety of colors and textures, so I chose which ones I wanted to use and separated them out to make it easier to string.
All that is left to do is string the beads and tassels together. Just like that you have a garland to hang where your heart desires!
